We’ve bundled together three of our most exquisite big reds, just in time to see out the last of winter (or to salt away in preparation for next year)—the surprisingly-big 2016 Muse Pinot Noir; the full-throated 2016 Muse Syrah, and the wonderfully long-lived Muse Cabernet Sauvignon (2015).
Moorilla Muse Syrah 2016
From the deep, red-purple colour onward, this is an alluring, elegant beast. The bouquet is classic—peppery, sweet berries, ample spice—and the palate is luxurious, with plenty of soft tannin and a long, rewarding carry. A subtle meatiness and nuanced, blackcurrant-on-the-vine character round out this astoundingly well-crafted wine.
Moorilla Muse Pinot 2016
Our Pinot Noir is slightly richer than the norm, made with estate-grown fruit from our original Moorilla vineyard (sharing the same peninsula as Mona). Colour is medium-full with brick and faint purple tints, the bouquet a feast of sweet black cherry and sous bois, with some spicy oak and subtle hints of whole-bunch fermentation.
Moorilla Muse Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
Rich, deep and dark-maroon to look at, with an intriguing, fruits-and-beasts-of-the-forest nose that runs the gamut from mahogany and sous-bois to dark chocolate-berry sponge cake and a slight, almost animalistic hint of musk, the 2015 Muse Cabernet Sauvignon is a thoroughly intriguing wine. On the palate, the tannins are dense and complex (promising a very long life), with lingering sour cherry, dried berries, and shades of cappuccino (plenty of chocolate sprinkles) topped by a slightly-above-medium acidity.
